As a first time attendee at the National Genealogical Conference in Las Vegas, I appreciated the opportunity to attend two of your great presentations. I've joined your Genealogy Gems and look forward to learning from you. I've had a good start on Ancestry and now am aware of how many resources are available.

To date - two exciting results.

1. Learned in a 1910 Canadian census that my great grandmother (widow) had a boarding house in Hamilton, Ontario. One of her daughters was my grandmother, Gertrude. One of the boarders was Alex Fletcher, my grandfather. So that's how they met. Didn't know that.

2. Posted information on a message board looking for Alex Fletcher in Yeovil, England. Six months later, got a response from a second cousin in New Zealand who informed me that my grandfather and her grandmother were sister-and-brother in a family of 11 children (I didn't know that) and that she's been working on the Fletcher genealogy for over 20 years - back to the 1600's in England. She sent me the entire detailed Fletcher family tree.

Now I have to pull myself away from my computer to tend to family and personal responsibilities. Love this treasure hunt.

Hi Lisa, Just reading the blog/video about "The Way That Genealogists Can Remember Everything". I already use Evernote for loads of work and personal things to remember. Another way is I use Google Reader to keep a list of sites I like and the advantage being that the feeds are updated so you can check for updates in one place - sure you probably know this. Every now and again I remove ones with no new material or topics not of interest. I have your old Genealogy Gems News at http://genealogygemspodcast.blogspot.com.au which I was going to delete. Anyway what I am trying to get to is that I could not find this old material on your new site. Might be that I did not look properly however if not it would be great to move this to the new site. There are some Wordpress plugins that help move old posts. I have use one a while bad however have removed it and forgotten its name.
Love your work! Regards Fran @travelgenee.com
